Lylla M. Berndt
"Loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother"
Allegany, NY Lylla M. Berndt of Allegany and a former longtime resident of Middle Rd. in Sheridan died peacefully Saturday (December 18, 2010) in the Absolut of Allegany while surrounded by her loving family.
Born July 10, 1916 in Perrysburg, NY she was the daughter of Clinton and Nellie Hubbard Patch. On May 12, 1942 in Frewsburg, NY she married William A. Berndt who predeceased her on April 22, 2001.
Mrs. Berndt was a graduate of Gowanda High School and resided in Sheridan most of her life until moving to Allegany in 2001 to be near her family. For many years she and her husband owned a grape and dairy farm in Sheridan. She later worked for the Fredonia Seed Co. prior to her retirement.
She was a member of the Sheridan Methodist Church and served as the secretary for the Sheridan Grange. She also was an active member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and belonged to other senior organizations as well. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting and was an excellent baker.
Surviving are one daughter Merilyn (Arthur) Mang of Allegany; 4 grandchildren Mark (Melissa) Mang of Rochester, Amy (Scott) Kellogg of Olean, William (Melissa) Mang of Southern Pines, NC and Lorelei (Robert) Barrey of Allegany; 12 great grandchildren; one sister Orabelle Clark of Hamburg and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband she was predeceased by an infant daughter Wilma Berndt on April 5, 1943 and two sisters Mae Sinn and Reva Clark.
There will be no prior visitation. Friends are invited to attend a funeral and committal service to be held Tuesday (December 21, 2010) at 10:30am in the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. Burial will be in Sheridan Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Allegany Fire Department, the SPCA 2944 Olean-Hinsdale Rd. Olean, NY 14760, the Sheridan Methodist Church or to a charity of the donor's choice.
