Obituary of Ethel Bowen

Allegany-- Ethel Bird Bowen formerly of Willard Street, passed away Sunday (December 12, 2010) at the Pines of Machias. Born November 2, 1911, in West Almond NY, she was the daughter of William and Julia Henry Bird. On May 18, 1930, she married L. George Bowen, who predeceased her September 16, 1993. Mrs. Bowen was a graduate of Canaseraga High School, class of 1929. She was employed by JC Penny in Olean for 30 years, retiring in 1976. After retiring from JC Penny she owned and operated a ceramic business. She was a member of the Olean Community Church and member of the 60+ Club. She enjoyed crafts, playing cards, fishing, Bingo and putting together jig- saw puzzles. Surviving is a son Robert E. (Rose) Bowen of Nipomo, CA; two grandchildren Laurie (Luke) Fenstermacher, Christine (Brian) Virtue; 7 great-grandchildren; and 1 sister Maxine Kellogg of Allegany. Besides her husband she was predeceased by two brothers Charles and Ernest Bird and a sister Josephine Bird. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Road on Thursday (December 16, 2010) from 11-12pm at which time funeral services will begin. Rev. Brian Garrett of the Olean Community Church will officiate. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery. Memorials if desired may be made to the American Cancer Society 6725 Lyons St. PO Box 7 East Syracuse, NY 13057. <h3>Visitation</h3> Thursday December 16 2010 11-12pm <h3>Services</h3> Thursday 12pm at the funeral home <h3>Interment</h3> Allegany Cemetery
