Obituary of Isabel T. Hornburg

Isabel T. Hornburg "Great family person" Olean, NY-- Isabel T. Hornburg of 138 N. 14th St. died Monday (March 24, 2003) in the Olean General Hospital. Born June 21, 1920 in Oil City, PA she was the daughter of William C. and Florence Redmond Taylor. On October 19, 1940 at the former First Methodist Church in Olean she married Earl H. Hornburg who survives. Mrs. Hornburg was a graduate of Oil City, Pa. High School and has resided in Olean since 1938. She worked as a secretary, first for the former First Methodist Church and later as a secretary during a former fundraising campaign at the Olean YMCA. She will be especially remembered as having raised a family of five successful children, and she excelled at several hobbies, especially golf, where she was a longtime member of the Bartlett Country Club. She also was a member of the Bridge Club, the Investment Club and the Gardening Club in Olean. Her activities included volunteering for the Olean General Hospital, the Project Head Start and the American Red Cross. She enjoyed singing with the "Sweet Adeline’s", doing cross stitch and needlework and spending time with her family. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. Surviving besides her husband are 4 daughters Martha (Robert) Young of Almond, NY, Diane (Richard) Merlo of Olean, Barbara (Ken) Barnes of Montoursville, PA and Karen (Steve) O’Keefe of Liverpool; 1 son Philip (Sandy) Hornburg of Visalia, CA; 13 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 1 sister Betty (Robert) Heck of Hagerstown, MD and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 1 brother William Taylor in 1997. Friends will be received on Thursday from 4pm until 7:30pm in the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. Funeral services will be held Friday (March 28, 2003) at 11:00am in the funeral home. Rev. Paul Cauvel, minister of visitation at Christ United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. View Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to Christ United Methodist Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
