Robert L. "Bob" Rittberg
Allegany, NY Robert L. "Bob" Rittberg of 8 Solterra Circle passed away peacefully Thursday (November 25, 2010) in his home with his wife and family by his side.
Born October 2, 1937 in Olean, NY he was the son of Velores "Bob" and Florence Turney Rittberg. At his 30th high school reunion he became reacquainted with Dorothy "Dottie" Chap, his high school sweetheart, whom he married in 1988.
Following his graduation from high school in 1955, Mr. Rittberg served for 8 years with the National Guard. He began employment in 1955 with Clark Bros. in Olean until 1974 and then worked for Ingersol Rand Co. in Painted Post until 1987. He moved to Arizona and was employed by Allied Signal Co. (now Honeywell) as a design engineer until his retirement in 2000. He and his wife then returned to live in Allegany.
He was a member of the Allegany American Legion, the Pulaski Club and was a life member of the Olean Moose Lodge.
Surviving besides his wife are one son Robert "Rob" (Wendy) Rittberg of Ashburnham, MA; three stepchildren Dr. Frank (Dr. Perilou Goddard) Kardes of Highland Heights, KY, Karen Kardes of Olean and David Kardes of San Francisco, CA; three grandchildren Kurt, Henry and Alexandra; three step grandchildren Jonathan, Tiffany and Benjamin; one brother George (Jackie) Rittberg of Rotunda West, FL; one brother-in-law Dr. Eugene Chap of Rehoboth Beach, DE and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial visitation will be held at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Monday (November 29, 2010) from noon until 2:00pm. A memorial service will follow at 2:00pm in the funeral home. Rev. Richard Husted, OFM, pastor of St. Bonaventure Church, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Homecare and Hospice 1225 W. State St. Olean, NY 14760 or to St. Bonaventure Church.
