Allegany-- Ronald E. Havers of Rte 417, Allegany, passed away Saturday (November 20, 2010) peacefully at his home.
Born February 14, 1925 in Lapeer Michigan, he was the son of Stuart and Carrie Mae Wheeler Havers. On January 2, 1946 in Aiken S.C., he married M. Francis Scott, who predeceased him February 10, 2002.
Mr. Havers was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II. He received the American Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart and the World War II Victory Medal.
He later went to work for the former Clark Brothers, now Dresser Rand, retiring after 37 years of service. Mr. Havers was an avid hunter especially hunting and trapping raccoons. He enjoyed playing baseball which he did into his late 40's and watching the Buffalo Sabres and the Buffalo Bills. He was a past member of the Allegany American Legion, attended the Allegany Baptist Church and was a member of the Steel Workers Union.
Surviving is 1 son Bruce Havers of Allegany; 1 daughter Linda Schutz of Allegany; 2 brothers William Havers of Phoenix AZ, Edward (Mary) Havers of Olean; 8 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife he was predeceased by 2 sons Larry Ronald Havers who died while serving in the Vietnam War in 1967, Keith Scott Havers in 1996; 3 brothers Leon Haver, Stuart Havers, Kirk Havers; 3 sisters Marie Schauld, Beatrice Alspach and Margaret Varn.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral home Monday from 7-9pm and Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11am at the Allegany Baptist Church. Rev. Frank Hayman, will officiate. Burial with full military honors will be at the Allegany Cemetery.
