Joseph Anthony Misnik
Hinsdale, NY Joseph Anthony Misnik of 3874 McMahon Rd. died Saturday (August 21, 2010) in the Olean General Hospital.
Mr. Misnik was raised in Buffalo and served with the US Navy in 1944 where he participated in the storming of the beaches of Normandy. He worked for 35 years for the Ocello Sponge Factory in Tonawanda, which at the time was a division of General Mills Co., until his retirement in 1986. At that time he moved to Hinsdale where he resided until his death.
He was a member of the Hinsdale American Legion Post #1434 and the Cuba VFW Post #2721. He enjoyed his pond, animals, scratch-off tickets and spending time with his family.
Surviving are his wife of 29 years Florence Misnik; a grandson Thomas (Angela Richter) Goodwill of Allegany; 3 daughters Margaret Mark of Flagler, FL, Alice (Jim) Wierzowski of Cheektowaga and Helena (Rudy) Ramos of Buffalo; several grandchildren and great grandchildren and a niece Marcy.
He was predeceased by a son Joseph Misnik; a daughter Michelle Goodwill and a sister.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Tuesday from 6-8pm. Funeral services will be held Wednesday (August 25, 2010) at 11:00am in the funeral home. Dr. Anthony Evans will officiate. Members of the Hinsdale American Legion will provide full military services at the service. Burial will be in Mt. View Cemetery Veterans Field of Honor, Olean.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
