Obituary of Margaret Johnson

Margaret L. Johnson "Loving mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother" Olean, NY--Margaret L. Johnson of 3219 Pennsylvania Rd. passed away Saturday (March 20, 2010) in Olean at the home of her son. Mrs. Johnson was born January 20th in Machias, NY and was the daughter of Leslie and Hildred Brown Stanbro. She was married to Frank Johnson who predeceased her November 3, 2005. Mrs. Johnson was a graduate of Machias Central School and had first worked at Thompkins County Trust Bank as head bookkeeper in Ithaca, NY. After moving to Olean she worked at the former Olean Trust Co. as a bookkeeper. She then had a 29 year career with the Hinsdale Central School District as a secretary in the main office, retiring in 1991. Margaret loved the outdoors and enjoyed planting flowers around her house. She also liked to do the crossword puzzles in the Olean Times Herald and the Buffalo News. Surviving are 1 son Robert T. (Kathleen) Johnson of Olean; 2 daughters Carol A. (David) Tesh of Spartanburg, SC and Christine M. (George) Smith of Wyomissing, PA; 6 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 1 sister Dora Betty Gilbert of Dansville, NY; 1 brother Karl (Norma) Stanbro of Franklinville and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by 2 sisters Iola Yaw of Cuba, NY and Cora Mae Bradley of Dansville, NY. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Wednesday from 5-8pm. Funeral and committal services will be held Thursday (March 25, 2010) at 11:00am in the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
