Marlene E. Brown
Olean, NY-- Olean-- Marlene Ellen Brown, a lifelong resident of Olean, passed away Friday (February 26, 2010) at the Olean General Hospital.
Born January 23, 1936 in Olean, she was the daughter of the late Creed D. and Teresa Ann Murphy Brown.
Ms. Brown graduated from The St. Mary's School for the Deaf in Buffalo, NY and upon graduation, spent several years as an assistant to teachers at the school. Baptized at St. Mary's of the Angels Catholic Church in Olean, Ms. Brown remained a lifelong parishioner. She was also a lifetime member of the Empire State Association of the Deaf Club, and often spent her days engaged in conversation and fun with her friends.
She truly loved all animals, especially her loving companion dogs Benji and Katie Marie, and more recently, her fish Mickey and Sam. She had a great love for her family and friends and was adored in return. In her free time she often spent it with her cousins Theresa Schaffer and Rita Covley, and her very special friends Lisa Napolone, Lois Andrews, Richard Reisner, Amy Trass, Robin Straub, Ann and Ken Putt and many more. She never forgot her family and friends scattered across the U.S., Ms. Brown spread her love and joy through birthday and holiday greetings.
Surviving are a Brother Justin Michael Brown of Huntington Beach, CA and a sister Camilla "Cam" Brown Gray of Lakeland, FL; 13 nieces and nephews; numerous grand and great-grand nieces and nephews, cousins and dear friends.
She was predeceased by her brothers Quentin Lowry Brown and Giles Brian (Guy) Brown; a sister MaryAnn Brown Spindler; and special aunts Kitty and Marie Murphy.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig and Hartle funeral home, 3128 W. State Road, Olean on Friday from 5-7pm. Funeral services will be held on Saturday (March 6, 2010) beginning with a prayer service at 9:30am at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 10am at St. Mary of the Angels Church. Rev. Gregory Dobson, pastor will be celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
