Harold A. "Andy" Long, III
Olean, NY-Harold A. "Andy" Long, III of 350 Front St. died Thursday (February 4, 2010) in the Absolut of Allegany after a short illness.
Born June 6, 1960 in Olean, NY he was the son of Harold A. "Hi" and H. Joan Reck Long, Jr.
Andy was a lifelong resident of Olean and had graduated from Olean High School, class of 1978. He had been employed for several years as an attendant for the City of Olean Parks and Recreation Department.
He was a member of St. Mary of the Angels Church and was also a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Olean Lodge #491, the Hinsdale American Legion, the St. Stephen's Club in Olean and was a former member of the Olean Eagle's Aerie #616. He was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society where he helped with fundraisers and he was an Oakland Raider's football fan. Most notably he will be remembered for his daily social visits with his many friends in all his favorite spots in the Olean area.
Surviving besides his mother of Olean are 6 sisters Cheryl LaRue of Olean, Bonnie (John) Kuhn of Allegany, Sandra (Harold) Sweet of Olean, Susie (Ted) App of Olean, Barbara Quinlan of Franklinville and Christine Thompson of Olean and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
In addition to his father he was predeceased by a brother-in-law Phil Thompson.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Saturday from 2-4 & 7-9pm and on Sunday from 2-5pm only. Funeral services will be held Monday (February 8, 2010) beginning with a prayer service at 9:30am in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00am in St. Mary of the Angels Church. Rev. Gregory Dobson, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
