John Marvin Crossville, TN-John Marvin, 83, formerly of Olean and Arcade, died Sunday (January 31, 2010) in his home in Crossville. Born November 6, 1926 in Cuba, NY he was the son of William H. and Emma Mae Bristol Marvin. On May 12, 1951 in N. Java, NY he married Rita F. Roche who survives. Mr. Marvin was a veteran of the US Coast Guard, having served during WWII. He had been employed for 38 years for New York Telephone Co. prior to his retirement. He was a former member of Sacred Heart Church in Portville prior to moving to Crossville 25 years ago. In Crossville he was a very active member of St. Alphonsus Church, especially with the Eucharistic ministry and the Lazareth ministry for more than 23 years. He was a member and Past Grand Knight of the Crossville Knights of Columbus Council #8152 and he was a fourth degree member of the Crossville Knights of Columbus Council #2162. He served as its Past Faithful Navigator and also served for 4 years as a District Deputy. He worked as a coordinator with Lifeline at the Cumberland Medical Center, served as a volunteer at Cumberland County Playhouse and was a member of Woodmen of the World. He was also a member of 127 South Senior Center in Crossville for over 25 years. When time allowed, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and stamp collecting. Surviving besides his wife are 1 son Chuck Marvin of Haverhill, MA; 4 daughters Janice (Joe) Procopio of Kirkville, NY, Mary (Curt) MacDonald of Olean, Patricia Marvin of Orchard Park, NY and Dolores Marvin of Olean; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 1 brother Neil (Connie) Marvin of Tallahassee, FL and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Chester Marvin and a sister Janice Quinn. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Friday from 6-9pm. Funeral services will be held Saturday (February 6, 2010) beginning with a prayer service at 12:30pm in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1:00pm in St. Mary of the Angels Church. Rev. Gregory Dobson, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to St. Alphonsus Church in Crossville or to the American Cancer Society.
