After leaving an instituion from which I spent 20 years of my professional life, it was overwhelming and emotional to join FDU. You embraced me without judgement and welcomed me to the community. You didn't need to do this as you knew nothing about me. Over time, I realized this was who you were as a person. For this, I will be forever indebted to you. My children, who affectionly called you Uncle Jason, extend their appreciation for your geniune good nature and positive outlook on life. They will forever remember their time with you at March Madness. A wise woman once told me that if someone does right by your kids, you will never forget. Jason, you will forever be with us. We love you now and forever, brother.

To the Amore family,
There are no words to express how sorry I am. I had the wonderful pleasure of working with and for Jason at AU. Our team was more than co-workers, we were a family that supported each other. I miss those days and I will certainly miss Jason.

A Tribute to Jason Amore
First off my condolences to Becky, Tiffany, Ed and Kara.
I was shocked when I first heard of Jason's untimely passing. It caught me off guard, and overwhelmed me emotionally as memories flooded over me. We had kept in contact sporadically over the many years as our paths crossed. Emailing each other when achievments or milestones were attained, bumping into each other after his college basketball career was over at a ballgame or at a family gathering. We always connected during the Christmas holidays, when Kara and him donated presents for our elementary students.
I don't know his children Julian or Adelynn well, but I write these words, this tribute for them.
As Jason's High School Guidance Counselor and High School basketball Coach, I was able to witness firsthand Jason unbelievable dedication, desire, and will to win. In three short years in the early 1990's your dad Jason, put little Friendship Central School "on the map" in Allegany County, Section V, and yes even in NY State!!
Jason was and will be remembered as an incredible local HS athlete, but he was much more than that. He was also very bright and did well scholastically. He was inducted into the Friendship Hall of Fame not for his athleticism, but for his academic successes and achievements in the world of work, something he was very proud of. His message to the FCS student population at his induction ceremony was that being a graduate from Friendship wasn't a deterrent but a blessing. They should embrace the small classes and seek the knowledge and wisdom of their teachers.
As a basketball player Jason alway saw the bigger picture. He was a 4 year starter; as a freshman he wanted to be the best player on the team, and he was. As a sophomore, he wanted to be one of the best in the league, and he was. As a junior the best in the Big 30 (30+ schools in the local NY/PA area), and he was. As a senior one of the best in Section V, and he was. For his accomplishments he was selected as one of Section V Great 8 basketball players his senior year and played in the McDonald's All-star game in Rochester.
In high school Jason never fully received all the accolades he truly deserved, because he never played on outstanding teams. I think the most wins we had in a season was 12. Plus the league was really stacked. During Jason's 4 year career, there were some of the best basketball players in the Class D division that Section V has ever seen. I look back and marvel at the talent!!
While I realize these names and towns will mean little to you, it is sure to spark fond memories to your grandmother Becky and your Aunt and Uncle of the battles and competition in his HS career. During that time the following players went on to play collegiate basketball; Cuba had the Ortiz brothers go to RIT, along with Craig Veley, the Sander's twins to JCC, Belmont had the 3 Smith brothers go to Canisius/Pitt-Bradford, Elmira, and St. John Fisher, Andover had the Fanton boy go to Binghamton, Scio had Theron Mong at St. John Fisher, the Price brothers from Jasper-Troupsburg, Belfast had the Enders boys. I'm sure I've missed some from Fillmore, Bolivar, Prattsburg, Whitesville, ect.... It just shows the wealth of talent and the competition around the league at that time.
As a freshman Jason led the team in scoring (15 points), as a sophomore he averaged 25 points and missed out by a fraction of a point, of being the Big 30 scoring champion to a player from Kane Pennsylvania. His junior and senior year he was the Big 30 scoring champion averaging an incredible 38 points a game his senior year and amassing over 2,300+ career points. Which at the time placed him 13th all time on the NY state scoring list.
He did all this while facing every imaginable "junk defense" designed to shut him down. Jason was offended if the opposing team didn't play him "box & one" or some other gimmick to try and curtail his scoring. Once while we were in a tournament at Alfred University the opposing team even played a triangle and two with the 2 players both guarding Jason.
Mark Erb, a seven footer, who played at St. Bonaventure, coached our JV team one year while Jason was on varsity, Coach Erb then went on to coach the varsity at Angelica. We were a better team and he knew they couldn't beat us so he told his team if they could hold Jason to under 25 points he would give them a pizza party. It didn't happen, Jason was unstoppable. Even though he was known in HS and in college as a scorer, he also was the best passer I have ever coached. He always led his HS team in assists and also in rebounds his junior and senior year. He never got enough credit for his court vision and passing skills.
The thing that amazed me about your dad was he was far from the best athlete on any team he ever played on. In high school there were at least 3 or 4 teammates who were faster, stronger, and who could jump better. He never won at wind sprints, and at six feet tall I don't ever remember him even being able to touch the rim. What he had was an incredible drive and work ethic to improve his skill level. He always was measuring himself against the best players and knew that it wouldn't be his athleticism that set him apart but his skill level and his will to win.
I always kidded Denny (your grandfather) that he must have gotten his lack of athleticism from the Amore side of the family and his skill level from the Stayers (your grandmother's family) side of the family. I also kidded Jason that if he had the athleticism of his sister Tiffany, a great athlete in her own right, he could have been a division 1 basketball player.
Jason's ability to frustrate opponents was legendary. His cockiness, swagger, and confidence even in a loss made him special. Opposing fans loved to jeer and goad him and Jason loved every minute of it, he in fact thrived on it. He was the most mentally tough player I have ever coached. After a game he always made sure he walked to the bus with teammate Joey Matta. Joey was one of our smallest players but had the "heart of a lion" and was our enforcer on the team. Nobody messed with Joe. Jason was wise enough to know that his best chance to make it to the bus unscathed was to stick with Joey.
As a coach I took "some heat" for allowing Jason to score at will and the green light to shoot whenever he wanted. In reality our best chance to win in my opinion was for Jason to put up as many points as possible and have the team play really good defense which was their strength. We weren't tall or extremely skilled, but we were aggressive and hard working. When you stop and think about it, to know you can count on your star player for 35-40 points every game and any offensive contributions from his teammates, along with good defense we were competitive in every game. I once had an opposing coach, who I really respected, tell me that Jason taking a bad or ill advised shot was sometimes better than having a teammate take a wide open shot.
The past few years here in Allegany County, I look at the basketball box scores where entire teams don't always score 38 points a game, and marvel at what an incredible accomplishment it was for him to average that many points!
In lieu of your grandfather's untimely death I was greatly honored when your dad asked me to stand up with him and present him when he was inducted into the Section V basketball Hall of Fame. It is an honor I will always cherish, now more than ever.
John Zambanini was a great baseball coach at FCS while Jason played. Jason was his designated hitter as an eighth grader on the varsity team. Coach Zambanini always said Jason had the most natural swing of any player he had ever coached in his career and John felt he was an even better baseball player than a basketball player. What an outstanding compliment.
Jason's drive and work ethic which he honed while at FCS served him well as an adult. He took those same skills along with the teamwork and charisma he had and applied them to his work.
In short I just wanted you as Jason's offspring to get a sense of who your dad was while he was in high school. There are a lot more stories I could tell you about your dad, but I will leave that up to your Mom, Grandma Becky, Aunt Tiffany, and Uncle Ed.
Jason has had an incredible impact and has represented the little village of Friendship very well over the years. He will be sorely missed by me, but has given me so many incredible memories. I just wanted to share some of them with both of you.
God bless,
Coach Pearsall (Your dad's HS Basketball Coach)

Dear Amore Family and Friends,
My deepest condolences to you all over the loss of Jason. My short time working with him at FDU was filled with laughter and warmth, even when we did not expect it! He always stayed positive even when faced with adversity, which was always very impressive. A kind soul as his is always missed and makes the loss sting more. True to his surname, Jason made sure to express gratitude and love in our community whenever he could.
Even though we were preparing to say goodbye to Jason as he planned his transition to St. Bonaventure University, it had been some time since seeing him or checking in on him, which I do regret. This goodbye was certainly not the one the FDU community had imagined, and I am so sorry for how all of this occurred.
May your family and our community of faith pray for his soul that he may reach our Father soon. Sending the comfort of faith to you all during this incredibly difficult time and prayers for the Amore children who will continue to remember and know their Dad through memories.

My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Jason during this difficult time. He was one of the kindest, warmest, most down-to-earth people I'd ever met. I didn't work directly for him at FDU, but he still did so much to make me - and everyone he worked with - feel welcome and valued. I'll miss our conversations, his wonderful sense of humor, and boundless energy! I was blessed to have known him.

Following a soft introduction from Pres. Zupan, Jason and I spoke on few occasions w/respect to the Gary Ostrower anniversary ceremony.
These conversations led to further discussion of AU basketball. I am a graduate of the class ‘71 and was friendly with most of team. This led to further conversations about AU sports. What a treat. I remember J having a trap like memory of his athletic career.
The one time met him at AU (2019) he was very gracious.
Jason was a leader, he will be missed.

To the Amore Family,
Our hearts are filled with sadness as we grieve Jason’s loss. From the first time we met, Jason was someone whose magnetic personality and warmth was apparent and contagious. In every challenge, every conversation and every interaction, he was someone whose upbeat demeanor brightened the room and the mood of all around him.
We were so excited for him as he was ready to return back to western New York to go back “home” to his roots. Our hearts are broken for all of you who counted him as a father, family member and friend. Our hope is that his memory will continue to serve as a blessing and reminder to all who loved him.

During Jason's job interview at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), we crossed paths and became acquainted. Soon after, he joined the team, and we quickly formed a strong bond as reliable colleagues and, in a remarkably short time, as close friends. Jason's magnetic personality, straightforward approach to work and life matters, and a genuine no-nonsense attitude made him truly unforgettable.
Describing in a few words the profound impact Jason had on my life is an arduous task. No matter when or why I reached out to him, he was always there for me. One summer, when I was feeling overwhelmed by work, Jason had already relocated to Louisville, Kentucky. Despite the distance, I made a spontaneous decision and called him one afternoon. The following day by 7 a.m., I was on my way to Louisville. I stayed with Jason and his family for a few days before returning home. That's just the kind of friend he was.
Our last conversation took place in mid-January through text messages. Jason shared with me that he had accepted a new position at St. Bonaventure. When I asked him how many times he had switched jobs, he simply replied with a finality, "8. I am done." I couldn't resist responding with, "Famous last words!"
We never said goodbye.
Jason, your presence was and continues to be profoundly impactful.

My deepest condolences to all who loved Jason. There are no words to make sense of a life taken too soon and there is nothing to remove the pain and grief. But there is solace in knowing that Jason made an incredible impression on people and a powerful impact on those close to him. I only knew him for several years but it feels like much longer because of his warmth and magnetic personality. I think the best thing I can say about Jason is that whether you were having a good or bad day, Jason made that day better when he was around. And that's probably the best compliment I can give anyone. In his memory, we can try our best to make the days better.

My sincere condolences to all of Jason's family and friends. I was shocked and saddened when I learned of his passing. It was so hard to believe that someone who was so full of life was no longer with us. I got to know Jason when he was at RIT and served as the Director of Development for our college. Jason was the most effective Development person I ever worked with. At every place he worked, he delivered significant increases in gifts acquired. In our situation, he figured out how to do that while having to deal with less than ideal arrangements. My favorite memories of Jason will be the times I got to know him when we stopped the seriousness of work and shifted to the times of friendship. You could not escape feeling how much he cared for everyone he called a friend. His humor was second to none. It was quick, on point, and often irreverent. Many times I have recounted to others some of Jason's humor that had me doubled over in laughter and tears. I will miss him greatly. The attached photo was taken in the summer of 2015 at a birthday party for him when he visited Rochester. I'm sure that Jason had just made some wisecrack that had us laughing. I (Jim Vallino) am on the right, and our colleague, Fernando Naveda, is on the left.
