Preston Family, I am so sorry for your loss. What a great man Gene was! I met him when, as a swimmer he stepped up to fill a need for the YMCA when we were contracted with the Olean Middle School to provide early morning lifeguards. He and a couple others who were already guarding early mornings at the Allegany pool offered to help out. I was most grateful and came to appreciate all of them. Gene continued for quite a while and became a good friend I had much respect for. I had heard in later years after moving to PA he continued to swim at the Bradford Y but sadly, we lost touch. I will always cherish our brief time together. Joan McGonnell Olean, NY

Gene was a mentor to me when I worked for him. He was wise and good man. My thoughts and prayers are with Charlotte, Lisa, Ed and the family during this time of loss.

Dear Charlotte, I'm so sorry for your loss. I have many fond memories of you and Gene during our "Tea Party" days. You were both always willing to pitch in and help. Gene always had some great ideas. I'm sure it is a comfort to know you will see him again some day. God bless and comfort you, and give you peace. Nancy
