Obituary of Claude Burroughs

Olean-- Claude M. "Marty" Burroughs, Jr., of 1015 Irving Street, passed away Saturday (September 19, 2009) at the Cuba Memorial Hospital Palliative Care Unit, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born August 16, 1925 in his family home in Portville, he was the son of Claude and Lina Gresal Burroughs, Sr. On November 29, 1947 at St. Mary of the Angel's Church, he married Mary L. Wenke, who predeceased him on June 30, 2002. Mr. Burroughs was employed as a mechanic at various garages throughout the area. He later went on to work for NY Telephone in Olean for 20 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of St. Mary of the Angels Church. In his free time he enjoyed working on cars and fishing. Surviving are one son Edward (Barbara) Burroughs of Cuba; two grandchildren Dean (Melanie) Burroughs of Limestone, Dawn (Barry) Beltz of New Castle PA; 5 great grandchildren Dean Burroughs II of Olean, Zachary Burroughs, Ashleigh Burroughs, Anna Burroughs all of Limestone and Emily Parker of New Castle PA. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Road on Monday from 7-9pm and Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday (September 23, 2009) beginning with a prayer service at 9:30am in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10am at St. Mary of the Angels Church. Rev. Gregory Dobson, pastor, will be celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
