Obituary of Lloyd Wurtz

Allegany-- Lloyd E. Wurtz of 3440 Maple Ave, passed away Thursday (August 6, 2009) at the Absolut of Allegany, surrounded by his family. Born February 19, 1921 in West Valley, NY, he was the son of Lewis and Helen Schumacher Wurtz. On January 31, 1949 in Olean, he married Frances Salmonson, who survives. Mr. Wurtz was a graduate of West Valley High School. He was enlisted in the U.S.Army 81st Division from 1942-1946. He served for over 3 years in the Pacific Theatre as a medical technician, and had received numerous medals. He was first employed for the former Daystrom Furniture Co. and later worked for 20 years at St. Elizabeth's Motherhouse, where he was known as "Their Saint." Mr. Wurtz was a member of St. Bonaventure Church. He had a special woodworking talent and also enjoyed gardening. Surviving besides his wife of 60 years, are their 4 children Pamela ( Kevin) Jones of Surprise, AZ, Cynthia (Robert) Cranor of Bonita Springs, FL, David Wurtz of Highland Falls, NY, Thomas (Nanci) Wurtz of Morrisville, NC; 14 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 3 sisters Agnes Wurtz, Carol Wurtz, Ruth Nolan; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 3 sisters LeEtta Bentkowski, Mary Foskit and Gilda Neudeck. There will be no calling hours. Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday (August 8, 2009) at 11:30am at St. Bonaventure Church. Rev. Richard Husted OFM, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery. The ritual team of the Allegany American Legion will accord military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Allegany Fire Department or to St. Elizabeth's Convent and Mother House, E. Main Street, Allegany. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W.
