Julia E. Horton "Loving Mother and Grandmother" Rome, NY-Julia E. Horton of 5409 Golly Rd., formerly of Heddon Hollow Rd. in Cuba passed away Thursday (July 9, 2009) in Rome Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Born June 20, 1923 in Portville she was the daughter of Almond and Lizzie Chadwick Murphy. On November 4, 1941 she married LaVerne C. Horton who predeceased her June 18, 2000. Mrs. Horton was a longtime resident of the Hinsdale and Cuba areas and had been employed as a nurse's aide at the Cuba Memorial Hospital for many years prior to retirement. She was a member of the Haskell Community Church and the Joy Fellowship of the church. She was a former member of the Women's Aglow of Olean and a former member of the Hinsdale Guys and Gals. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. Her family was central to her life and she loved family get-togethers. Surviving are 6 daughters Mary (Rev. Charles) Hitchcock of Cuba, Judith A. Robins of Cuba, Elaine (Jerry) Holmes of Canyon City, CO, Marilyn Prince of Hinsdale, Denise (David) Smith of Portville and Jo Ann (William) Coleman of Rome; 1 son Paul (Anne) Horton of Olean; 11 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by 1 daughter Rose Giboo; 1 son LaVerne Horton; 5 brothers Robert Murphy, Harold Murphy, Burton Murphy, Merlin Murphy and Edward Murphy and 2 sisters Emily Murphy and Alice May Murphy, both in infancy. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Saturday from 4-8pm. Funeral services will be held Sunday (July 12, 2009) at 3:00pm in the funeral home. Rev. Robert Kaple, pastor of the Haskell Community Church, will officiate. Burial will be next to her husband in Mt. View Cemetery Veterans Field of Honor. Memorials may be made to the Hinsdale Volunteer Fire Department or to the Haskell Community Church.
