Mavis Hitchcock Colley "Loving mother and grandmother" Cuba, NY-Mavis Hitchcock Colley, a former resident of Allegany and Land 'O Lakes, FL passed away Friday (July 3, 2009) in the Cuba Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility. Born October 31, 1916 in Olean, NY she was the daughter of Milton and Charlotte Newman Marsh. On October 16, 1937 in Olean she married Clinton W. Hitchcock who predeceased her May 12, 1968. In May of 1977 she married Harold A. Colley who died March 12, 1997. Mrs. Colley was a former tax collector for the Town of Allegany and also for the Allegany Central School. After retirement she had resided in Florida for 22 years prior to moving to Allegany in 2004. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Allegany and enjoyed playing cards, bowling and visiting with friends. Surviving are 1 daughter Nancy E. (Ken) Dutton of Cuba; 1 son James C. (Judy) Hitchcock of Allegany; 1 step daughter Jane Shay of Olean; 5 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 8 step great grandchildren; 1 sister Eleanore Hortman of Buffalo and several nieces and nephews. In addition to both her husbands she was predeceased by 1 brother Kenneth R. Marsh and 1 sister Evelyn Stadelman. At Mrs. Colley's request, there will be no public visitation. Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Allegany 44 N. 3rd St. Allegany, NY 14706. Arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, Olean.
