John J. Kuhn, Sr. Allegany, NY-- John J. Kuhn, Sr. of 4115 S. Nine Mile Rd. Lot 38, formerly of Spring Court Apartments died Monday (June 9, 2008) in his home surrounded by his loving family. Born October 19, 1917 in Olean, NY he was the son of Lawrence M. and Helen Kiley Kuhn. On February 9, 1946 at St. John’s Church in Olean he married Bernardine Hemmerly who survives. Mr. Kuhn was a lifelong resident of Olean and was a veteran of WWII having served in the US Army Air Corps. He worked for the Pennsylvania Rail Road and was later a self employed electrician as co-owner of P & K Electric for over 35 years. He retired from the Olean City School District after 9 years of service. He was a member of St. John’s Church and was a member of the Olean American Legion Post #530. He was also a member of the Olean Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. In the past he enjoyed roller skating and bowling and more recently was an avid reader and walker. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Surviving are 3 sons Lawrence (Judy) Kuhn of Weston’s Mills, Michael G. (Karen) Kuhn of Millsboro, DE and John J. (Bonnie) Kuhn, Jr. of Allegany; grandchildren; great grandchildren; 2 sisters Betty (Andy) Gattiglio of Boston, MA and Peggy !McAvoy of Rochester; 1 brother James Kuhn of Olean and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by an infant brother Frank Kuhn and a sister-in-law Wilma Kuhn. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean tonight from 7-9pm and Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Thursday (June 12, 2008) beginning with a prayer service at 9:30am in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. John’s Church. Msgr. William Wangler, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Homecare and Hospice 1225 W. State St. Olean, NY 1760.
