Olean, NY—Catherine A. “Kate” Howden of 101 N. 20th St. died Wednesday (May 23, 2007) in The Pines Health and Rehabilitation Center in Olean where she had resided for the past six years.
Born January 7, 1924 in Salamanca, NY she was the daughter of Karl and Theresa Serdevan Seitz. On August 9, 1946 in Olean, NY she married Robert G. “Stub” Howden who predeceased her August 4, 2006.
Mrs. Howden was a graduate of Salamanca High School and had resided in Olean most of her life. She first worked for Clark Brothers in Olean and later as a nurse’s aide for the former St. Joseph’s Manor in Olean.
She was a member of St. Mary of the Angels Church and used to be active playing tennis and biking. She was an avid reader.
Surviving are 1 son Mark (Kathleen) Howden of Olean; 4 daughters Christine (Dr. James) Valenza of Naples, FL, Catherine T. (Daniel) !DenBleyker of Thornton, CO, Caroline (Robert) Ash of Olean and Ann (James) Thompson of Thornton, CO; 14 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 3 brothers John (Mary Jane) Seitz of Tequesta, FL, James Seitz of San Diego, CA and Alfred (Chickie) Seitz of Salamanca and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband she was predeceased by a daughter Mary Spears in 2001 and 3 brothers Karl Seitz, Paul Seitz and Martin Seitz.
Friends will be received for a memorial visitation at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Friday from 6-8pm. Funeral services will be held Saturday (May 26, 2007) at 9:00am in the funeral home. Rev. Gregory Dobson, pastor of St. Mary of the Angels Church will officiate. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery.
