Obituary of Betty J. Spears

Betty J. Spears “Beloved wife, mother and grandmother” Olean, NY—Betty J. Spears of 1578 E. River Rd. died Monday (November 5, 2007) in the Olean General Hospital after a long illness. Born January 1, 1932 in Cuba, NY she was the daughter of Ransom and Bernice Learn Benham. On June 7, 1952 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Olean she married James C. Spears who survives. Mrs. Spears was a graduate of Rushford High School and had resided in Olean most of her life. She was a beloved homemaker who enjoyed cooking as well as growing vegetable and flower gardens. She was talented at crafts and will be remembered for making and collecting dolls. Surviving besides her husband are 1 daughter Pamela (Ernest) Briggs of New Orleans, LA; 1 son James (Sheila) Spears of Olean; 9 grandchildren Jamie, Ernie, Shawn, Casey, Shandel, Jeb, James Todd, Jacob and Kennlee; 3 great grandchildren Tristan, Jaci and Cadence; 3 brothers Donald (Marilyn) Kuzak of Merced, CA, Edward Kuzak of Portville and Richard (Vivian) Kuzak of Sacramento, CA; 2 sisters Jean (Chuck) Corson of Olean and Nancy (Larry) Doner of Hinsdale and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Friday (November 9, 2007) at 11:00am in the funeral home. Rev. Dr. Carl Schultz will officiate. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery.
