Obituary of Norman E. George

Norman E. George, Sr. Allegany—Norman E. George, Sr. formerly of 1121 River Street, Olean, most recently of Absolut Allegany, passed away Friday (November 9, 2007) at the Olean General Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born August 1, 1926, in Olean, he was the son of James and Bessie Gore George. He first married Gertrude Mae Frederick on August 17, 1944 who passed away in 1990. He later married Alda “Tillie” Palumbo who predeceased him on January 21, 2006. Mr. George attended Olean High School. He was first employed for Olean Wholesale for 6 years, the Pennsylvania Railroad for 18 years and later for Clark Bros., now Dresser-Rand Co., for 22 years. He enjoyed building stock cars as well as listening to old country music. Surviving are his seven children Barbara (Lee) Riggs of Allegany, Norman (Edna) George, Jr. of Olean, Dorothy (Daniel) Hirt of Allegany, Linda (John) Kemp of Olean, Nancy (Larry) Bartz of Arcade, William George, Sr. of Olean, James (Denise) George of Cuba; three step-daughters Mary Kay Houben, Janet (Dennis) !McFall, Nancy (David) !VanDuesen; 1 sister Sandra Wilson of Darien Center; 1 brother Vernon (Joyce) George of Portville; 26 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren;1 great-great grandson and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wives, he was predeceased by 3 sisters Joyce Speakman, Jean Donovan, Marlene Rankin; 1 brother Robert George; a grandson Little Billy George, Jr. on May 28, 2004 and a great- grandson Kyle Stearns on June 19, 2006. Friends will be received at Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Road, Olean on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Tuesday (November 13, 2007) at the Funeral Home. Chaplin Terry Bush of the Lyndon Volunteer Fire Company will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Hinsdale. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 315 Alberta Dr. Suite 102, Amherst, NY 14226.
