Obituary of Nancy L. Gilbert

Nancy L. “Minnie” Gilbert “Loving wife, mother and friend” Olean, NY—Nancy L. “Minnie” Gilbert of 705 Front St. died Sunday (November 18, 2007) in The Pines Health and Rehabilitation Center in Olean after a long illness. Born March 29, 1949 in Cuba, NY she was the daughter of Wilber and Arlene Murray Sherman. On June 19, 1976 at Bethel AME Church in Olean she married J. Wesley Gilbert who survives. Mrs. Gilbert was a graduate of Friendship Central School and had attended Olean Business Institute. She was a homemaker and she enjoyed raising her family. She also worked for the !ReHabilitation Center as a resident assistant prior to the beginning of her illness in 2003. She was instrumental in the founding of and was a longtime active member of the House of Prayer Evangelistic Center, now the Rock of Revelation Church in Olean, from 1996 until the present where she also served as the women’s minister. Surviving besides her husband are 3 sons Pastor Jay Anthony Gilbert, Kellen L. Gilbert and Kirk W. (Megan) Gilbert, all of Olean; 1 sister !MaryEllen (Hussein) Saleh of Palm Harbor, FL; 2 nieces and 1 nephew. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by 1 brother William Sherman. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean tonight from 6-8pm and on Wednesday (November 21, 2007) from 11:00am until 1:00pm. A memorial service will be held in the funeral home at 1:00pm. Mrs. Gilbert’s son, Pastor Jay Anthony Gilbert, will officiate, assisted by Bishop Marion Richey. Burial will be in Mt. View Cemetery, Olean. Memorials may be made to the Rock of Revelation Church.
