Obituary of Stanley Lucyszyn

"Former Olean Resident" Medina NY-- Stanley Lucyszyn, a 5 year resident of Medina, formerly of Olean, passed away Wednesday (April 1, 2009) at the Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo as a result of an accident at his home. Born November 30, 1923 in Steam Valley,NY, he was the son of John and Mary Blaha Lucyszyn. On June 14, 1944 at St. John's Church in Olean, he married Josephine M. Bassano, who predeceased him on June 28, 2002. Mr. Lucyszyn was a 1942 graduate of Olean High School. From 1943-1945 he served as a Staff Sergeant in the 63rd Division with the United States Army. He served in Rhineland-Central Europe during WWII as a Ranger. He was the recipient of 2 Bronze Stars, the Purple Heart and numerous other awards and Honors. He first went to work for the former Daystrom Furniture Co. in Olean, and later for Clark Bros, where he retired from in October of 1979. Stanley was a lifelong member of St. John's Church in Olean, and was a current member of the Medina VFW, the Disabled American Veterans, and was a past member of the Olean American Legion. He was also a past member of the Olean Moose Club, and was a past member of the Am Vets Post 1 in Cuba, NY. Surviving are 3 sons Andrew (Elizabeth) Lucyszyn of Medina, Donald (Laura Osgood) Lucyszyn of Largo, FL, Stanley Lucyszyn of Largo, FL; 2 grandchildren Andrew (Kelly) Lucyszyn of Chili, NY, Kathryn (Sean) Hardner of Lyndonville, NY; 5 great-grandchildren Vincent and Bronwyn Lucyszyn of Chili; Jordyn and Ian Smith and Meagan Hardner of Lyndonville; 1 sister Anna Padlo of Olean and several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife he was predeceased by 5 brothers Andrew (who was the first deceased veteran of Olean brought home for burial during WWII), George, Michael, Stephen, and Nicholas Lucyszyn; and a grand daughter Mary Lucyszyn. Friends will be received at Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Road, Olean, on Wednesday April 15, 2009 from 9-9:30 for a memorial visitation. A prayer service will begin at 9:30am. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am in St. John's Church with Rev. Gregory Dobson, pastor of St. Mary of the Angel's Church officiating. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials if desired, may be made to HomeCare and Hospice 1225 W. State Street, Olean.
