Obituary of Joyce Scharping Devine

Joyce M. Scharping Devine Allegany, NY-Joyce M. Scharping Devine of 3974 Rte 417 Lot 136 passed away Thursday (March 12, 2009) in her home. Born October 5, 1945 in Wellsville, NY she was the daughter of Charles and Agnes Illerburn Franklin. Ms. Devine was a graduate of Holley High School and had resided in Olean for many years prior to moving to Allegany 5 years ago. She had been employed as a bookkeeper at the former Olean Travel Service and later worked for 9 years as a cashier for the Service Store Park and Shop on West State St. in Olean prior to her retirement in 2005. She enjoyed gardening, growing flowers and reading. Surviving are 2 sons Todd R. (Jeanette) Scharping and Vernon J. (Jill) Scharping, both of Holley; 2 grandchildren Jamie V. Scharping and Rebecca Scharping; several step grandchildren; 1 sister Connie (Chris) Wolfer of Delevan; 2 brothers Charles (Linda) Franklin of Belfast and Dennis (Shona) Schwartz of Springwater; several nieces and nephews and her fianc� George Gilmer and his daughter Melissa Kramer. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State St. Olean on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Wednesday (March 18, 2009) at 11:00am in the funeral home. Rev. Gerald N. Piper, co-pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church in Olean, will officiate. Burial will be in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Portville. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Homecare and Hospice 1225 W. State St. Olean, NY 14760.
