Richard T. Witter Olean-- Richard T. "Dick" Witter, of 2833 Back Hinsdale Road, passed away Saturday (January 17, 2009) at the Olean General Hospital, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Born August 30, 1937 in Olean, he was the son of LeRoy E. and Malita A. Clemons Witter, Sr. On September 25, 1976 he married Marguerite "Pat" Baker, who predeceased him on April 15, 2008. Mr. Witter was a graduate of Olean High School. He served 25 years in the United States Air Force retiring as a Tech Sergeant. Later, he was employed for McGraw Edison Co. in Olean. Mr. Witter was a member of the St. Stephen's Club, the Hinsdale American Legion, Norton Chambers Post #1434, the Olean VFW Post #1619 and a past member of the Hinsdale Volunteer Fire Department. Surviving are his 5 children Donald (April) Witter of Ely, NV, Ronald (Stacy) Witter of Kingsley, IA, Darla (John) Rosendu of Kiron, IA, Carol (Roy) Mitchell of Mountain Home, ID, Vicky Witter of Council Bluffs, IA; 9 step- children William (Barbara) Baker of Colden, NY, Deborah Koch of Washington D.C., Mary Beth Baker of Springville, James (Debra) Baker of Orchard Park, Patsy (Mark) Peterson of Springville, Michael Baker of Olean, Margaret Kent of Hinsdale, Katherine Weise of Glenwood, NY, Anthony (Patrice) Baker of Kensington, VT; 2 brothers Charles (Rose) Witter of Portville, Ray (Janet) Witter of Wellsville; 2 sisters Naomi MacNeal of Olean, Gloria Bright of Olean; 1 sister-in-law Geraldine Witter of Allegany; many grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife he was predeceased by 1 daughter Cynthia Witter; 1 sister Donna Gray and 4 brothers LeRoy Witter, Jr., Donald Witter, Daniel Witter; and Robert Witter. Friends will be received at Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Road, on Tuesday from 4-7pm. Visitation will continue on Wednesday (January 21, 2009) from 12-2pm, at which time funeral services will begin at the funeral home. Rev. Brad Chesebro, pastor of the Trinity United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society 6725 Lyons St. PO Box 7 East Syracuse, NY 13057 or to the Hinsdale American Legion.
