Obituary of W. Adams

W. Mallery Adams Belmont-William "Mallery" Adams, of 5096 Amity Lake Road, passed away Saturday (January 31, 2009) at his home. Born March 24, 1913 in Cullman, Alabama, he was the son of William M. and Kathryn Mallery Adams. He was a graduate of Wellsville High School, were he played football and ran track. On July 3, 1936, at St. John's Church in Olean, he married Mary Chapus. Together they shared 72 years of marriage. He was enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a 1st Class Seaman, serving during World War II. He was employed for and retired from Eastman-Kodak in Rochester. Mal enjoyed watching sports and was an avid fisherman and enjoyed teaching his children, grand-children and great- grandchildren how to fish. He and his wife also enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Canada. Surviving besides his wife are 2 daughters Connie (Don) Koehler of Hornell, Sharon Oyer of Honeoye Falls; 1 sister Jean Young of Olean; 13 grand children; 23 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son John M. Adams on November 24, 1998. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8pm. Funeral services will be held Thursday (February 5, 2009) beginning with a prayer service at 10:30 am in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John's Church at 11am. Rev. James Vacco, OFM, will be the principal celebrant, assisted by Deacon Frank Pasquale. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials if desired may be made to Compeer of Rochester, Monroe Square, 259 Monroe Ave., Rochester NY 14607, the SPCA, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
