Thank you for being my teacher, my mentor and friend since the early 1980s. Anything I could write would not be enough. Rest in peace, Dan. You are a hero to many and I promise you that your extraordinary memory and mission will continue. Love, Rob Buckla

I met Fr. Dan when he was at a parish in the Bronx in the 1970`s. His exuberance for sharing the gospel never waned in all of his priestly life. I had a visit with him much later at the Mountain and later still for a Merton conference about 2013 or thereabouts at St. Bona`s. He was a listener par excellence, and the way he laughed defied categorization. What a legacy he left behind, and all the admirable work he has done for the Lord as well will live on in the hearts and minds of too many to count. RIP Fr. Dan.

Dear Dennis, Ellen and Patty, Do you remember the Ryan family from Orchard Park? Rita and John Ryan and the five of us kids. Your mom Fran and my mom Rita were very close cousins.
We are all so sorry to hear of Billy's death.
When we were children our families would get together for picnics and have so much fun. I saw your brother when Mt Iranius opened.
Sadly we didn't stay in touch.
He was a wonderful person and did so much for so many.
My love goes out to all of you. May your memories bring you peace.
Love, Peggy Anne

I have many memories of Fr. Dan… When I was at Bona's, I remember being in a class at Plassman Hall and hearing Fr. Dan’s laugh ring out across campus all the way from the campus ministry building! As an alum, I attended Mountain on the Road events and one of his book signings in Buffalo. He shared the same laughter, warmth, and affection as he always did, and he seemed to recall each and every one of us by name. I witnessed his dream of The Mountain grow and thrive over the years as well, an incredible legacy. Fr. Dan created a family and a spiritual home for all of us. What an incredible gift. Thank you, Fr. Dan! We will try to keep laughing and smiling down here in your honor, and we ask you to watch over us until we can join you for the big, heavenly Bona reunion someday!

Fr. Dan,
You were a friend and counselor to all. Your unique God given talents were a comfort to many. A few years ago, we shared a few verses from Thompson's immortal, Catholic poem. Now, the "Hound of Heaven" has called you to your final home. Requiescat in pace.
