Obituary of Dorothy Chap Rittberg

Dorothy “Dottie” Chap Rittberg Allegany, NY Dorothy “Dottie” Chap Rittberg passed away peacefully on Saturday (June 22, 2024) with her family around her. Born July 11, 1938 in Olean, she was the daughter of Bennie J. and Sophie Padlo Chap. Dottie graduated from Olean High School at the age of 16. While a senior in school, she worked part time for a local attorney. She later worked at Clark Bros. When she moved to East Aurora, she worked as an executive secretary for Fisher-Price Toys. After working for Fisher-Price for 17 years, she moved to Arizona and worked as an administrative assistant for Motorola, Inc. for another ten years. In Arizona, she married the love of her life, Robert Rittberg. While in Arizona they traveled extensively to Nevada, CA, Tombstone, Bisbee, Sedona, Flagstaff, etc. Bob and Dottie also enjoyed going on cruises—Mexican Riviera and Alaska. Dottie leaves behind three children, Dr. Frank R. (Dr. Perilou Goddard) Kardes, Karen L. Kardes, and David E. Kardes; three grandchildren, Jonathan E. Colon, Tiffany A. Colon , and Benjamin J. Pavone, and one special great granddaughter, Veda Lynn Fillgrove. She was predeceased by her parents; her only sibling, Dr. Eugene J. Chap, and her beloved husband Robert L. Rittberg. Friends are invited to attend a memorial mass to be celebrated Thursday (June 27, 2024) at 9:30am at St. Bonaventure Church. Pastor Chris Emminger will be the celebrant. Her cremated remains will be buried next to her husband at the St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to St. Bonaventure Church, 95 E. Main St., Allegany, NY 14706, or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, Olean.
