Mary Rosemond Quattrone DeLong
Allegany, NY Mary Rosemond Quattrone DeLong, a longtime Allegany resident, passed away Saturday (April 13, 2024) at The Pines of Olean, just 5 months before her 100th birthday.
Born September 16, 1924 on the Cranberry Rd. in Allegany, she was the daughter of Phillip and Christina Morris Quattrone, Sr. On December 3, 1949 she married Hugh K. DeLong, Jr. where they started their life together on the West Five Mile Rd. and with whom she had 5 children. He predeceased her, and on October 13, 1990 she married Ralph R. Snyder with whom she resided in Salamanca until he predeceased her August 1, 1993. After returning to Allegany to live, she met Fred Lunden of Bradford PA in 1997 and they spent many wonderful years of friendship. Together they loved dancing and traveling each year to Florida where they visited many relatives and friends along the way. He passed away in November of 2020.
Mary, along with her sister Daisy, lived with her maternal grandmother on a farm where she attended Brockton Elementary School and then Little Valley High School. She later graduated from Allegany Central School. She also graduated from Paul’s Beauty School in Buffalo.
She spent many years as a beautician in Chautauqua, in Salamanca, and in Olean. For 28 years she worked as a ward secretary for Olean General Hospital until her retirement.
Mary remained active her entire life, showing her love of her large family, her children, and friends. She was a woman of great faith in God’s love for all. It served her well through life and enabled her to be the resilient, happy person that everyone knew. Over the years she belonged to St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Olean, the Allegany Baptist Church, and most recently the First United Methodist Church in Bradford, PA.
Her hobbies included flower and vegetable gardening and collecting heritage information that she shared with all family members.
She leaves behind 4 children, Dale (Mary Jo) DeLong of Longs, SC, Hugh (Nancy) DeLong of Jeffersonville, PA, Jean (the late Thomas in 1997) Leonard of Orlando, FL, and Paul (Karen) DeLong of Allegany; 9 grandchildren, Dawn DeLong, John DeLong, Elizabeth Murphy, Melissa Pacella, Christopher Leonard, Kevin Leonard, Alicia Burns, Eric DeLong, and Jennifer DeLong; 14 great grandchildren Zachery DeLong, Michelle Souza, Franklin Garcia, Kahlan Murphy, Ester Pacella, Caden Leonard, Corbin Leonard, Parker Leonard, Harrison Leonard, Declan Burns, McKayla Burns, Maddox DeLong, Drake DeLong, and Jhonas Price; 2 siblings Gloria Stevens Stygerof Colorado, and June Rogers of Ft. Edward, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
In addition to her husbands, Hugh and Ralph, and her longtime companion Fred, she was predeceased by siblings Daisy Jeffrey, Violet Hall, Phillip Quattrone, and Lawrence Quattrone, and her infant daughter Dawn Quattrone, twin sister to Dale DeLong.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday (April 17, 2024) from 11am until 1pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd., Olean. A funeral service will be held at 1pm in the funeral home. Rev. Rick Price, pastor of the Bradford Church of Christ, will officiate. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery.
