James C. Carls
Lady Lake, FL James C. Carls, 91, of 1837 Kaufman Circle, passed away Monday (April 1, 2024) at Cornerstone Hospice in The Villages, FL.
Born October 3, 1932 in Olean, he was the son of George and Alice Corcoran Carls. On July 15, 1972 in the former Sacred Heart Church in Portville he married Joanne E. Macdonald who survives.
Jim was a graduate of Allegany High School and received a degree in electronics technology from Buffalo State College. He served for 2 years in the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1955 where he later served in the Reserves.
He had been employed for New York Telephone Co. for many years prior to his retirement.
Jim was a skilled athlete, as well as having been creative with electronics and woodworking. He was proud of being able to high jump over 6 feet back in high school. He had been a member of the US Swim Team and was an avid, excellent golfer, where he spent much of his time playing at Birch Run Country Club. He enjoyed remodeling homes, and spending time in his workshop where among his many projects included building 4 television sets and several sets of golf clubs. Lastly, Jim loved playing the card game euchre and was a loyal Buffalo Bills fan!
He is survived by his wife Joanne; 3 sons Mark (Jen) Carls of Portville, Scott Carls of Henderson, NV, and Kevin (Kelly) Carls of Merrimack, NH; 5 grandchildren, Thomas, Ashley, Marissa, Lyla & Gracie;, 2 nieces, Karen Jones and Linda Thomas, and 2 nephews, Jim Carls and Tom Carls.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by an infant brother, George Carls, and a brother Dr. Henry Carls.
Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial visitation on Friday (May 17, 2024) from 7-9pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd., Olean. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday (May 18, 2024) at 11am in St. Bonaventure Church. Burial will be next to his parents in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany.
