David A. Meyers David A. Meyers, 67, of Olean, NY, passed away Wednesday (January 17, 2024) after a recent illness. Born August 16, 1956 in Buffalo, he was the son of the late Abraham H. and Veronika Kriener Meyers. David was a graduate of Olean High School and enjoyed track & field as well as having been a boy scout. In 1974 he enlisted in the US Army and served honorably until his discharge in 1977. He began working at the former AVX Corporation in Olean until starting employment with the former McGraw Edison, later Cooper Industries in 1979. He worked for 34 years until his retirement in 2013. David was an ardent geocacher, having achieved world renowned status. He was ranked #1 in New York State and was among the top ten worldwide. Known to those in the geocaching community as “Dave w/o id”, it enabled him to travel extensively and where he met many new friends. He geocached in every state except Hawaii. He also kept an interest in hot air ballooning and often assisted by driving the chase car for events and pleasure rides. For a period of time, he was in a partnership with two of his brothers in the local real estate market, buying and selling properties. David was very proud of his family, especially his grandchildren whom he loved so much. He very much enjoyed the outdoors and frequently went hiking and took casual walks with his son Eric. David was a member of the Sacred Temple Church of God in Christ in Olean. All who knew him could agree that he was a generous person who was a giver of unique gifts. He leaves behind his three children, Eric Meyers of Olean, Amy (John) Redente of Ypsilanti, MI, and Debi (Justin) Houser of Northeast, PA; 11 grandchildren, Gabriel, Anthony, Vincent, Grace, Bianca, Angelo, Sofia, Raffael, Luciana, Isabella, and Kiara; four siblings, Phillip Meyers of Martinsville, IN, Reinhart (Bobbie) Meyers of Great Bend, NY, Lenora Nelson of Essex Junction, VT, and Bruce (Jennifer) Meyers of Olean, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. David’s burial will be private at St. Bonaventure Cemetery. A celebration of his beautiful life will be arranged for a later date and place to be announced. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, Olean.
