Obituary of Ernest L. Chase, Jr.

Ernest L. Chase, Jr. Allegany, NY Ernest L. Chase, Jr., 80, of N. Nine Mile Rd., Allegany, passed away Tuesday (September 5, 2023) at the Olean General Hospital after an illness, with his loved ones by his side. Born June 13, 1943 in Punxsutawney, PA he was the son of Ernest L. and Geraldine Mae Grove Chase, Sr. Ernest was a graduate of Allegany Central School. He began working for the former Casey Cole Chevrolet in Bradford, and later for Dresser Clark Co. in Olean. He was always very active in the hobbies he loved. His passion was for working on cars, especially his blue 1965 Corvair which he kept in mint condition. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, and splitting wood. He was also a fan of watching television westerns including John Wayne movies and Gunsmoke. He is survived by 3 sons Ernest L. Chase, III of Vincennes, IN, Randy Chase of Allegany, and James Chase of Allegany; 2 daughters Laura Chase and Melinda Chase, both of Olean; 18 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; 1 brother David (Christine) Chase of Allegany; several nieces and nephews, and a loving companion of 35 years, Donna Skroback of Allegany. He was predeceased by his parents; a son Franklin J. Chase in 2021, and a sister Dorothy Hakes. The family will be present to receive friends at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd., Olean on Saturday (September 9, 2023) from 11am to 1pm. A service will begin at 1pm in the funeral home. Rev. Tim Chase, a cousin to Ernest, will officiate. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery.
