Obituary of Fran Wilber

Frances A. Wilber Allegany, NY Frances A. Wilber of Allegany, passed away Wednesday (November 23, 2022) at the Olean General Hospital, surrounded by her children. Born May 10, 1938 in Bradford, PA she was the daughter of Francis James and Naomi Audrey Vandernic Semelsberger. On March 17, 1967 in Allegany, she married Russell C. Wilber who predeceased her March 15, 2007. Fran was employed as a waitress for the former Paul’s Steak House and the Ho-Sta-Geh Restaurant. She later managed the former Put On Shop at the Olean Center Mall. She was a life member of the Allegany Fire Department Auxiliary and passed the time crocheting items that she enjoyed sharing with friends and people in need. Surviving are 2 children Dana (Toni) Spring of Allegany and Angela (Monty) Howden of Allegany; 8 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 2 daughters-in-law Carol Spring and Diane Spring; 2 stepdaughters Karen (Ron) Wilber of Hinsdale and Christine (Jeff) Smith of Olean and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by 2 sons Randy Spring on November 22, 2012 and Phillip Spring on March 12, 2020; 2 brothers Robert J. Semelsberger on March 8, 1996 and Michael J. McChesney on June 3, 1993, and her stepfather Joseph McChesney on March 29, 1986. There is no scheduled visitation or formal ceremony planned. A celebration of Fran’s life will take place by family members at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined and donations in her memory may be made to the Allegany Fire Department. Arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, Olean.
