Olean, NY- Suzenne E. “Sue” Barry passed away Saturday (August 13, 2022) at the Olean General Hospital.
Born March 31, 1942 at St. Francis Hospital in Olean, she was the daughter of Francis C. and Marian E. Carrigan Kramer. On July 7, 1962 at St. Mary of the Angels Church in Olean she married David J. Barry who predeceased her on December 4, 2007. They lived in Clarksville, TN and Newport, RI while Dave served in the U.S Navy and in Olean while Dave was deployed and after his discharge in 1965.
Mrs. Barry was a 1960 graduate of Olean High School and a 1961 graduate of St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing. She also did some coursework at Jamestown Community College.
She was employed by St. Francis Hospital as a nurse from 1961 to 1989 and spent her last 12 years at St. Francis in the intensive care unit. She went on to work for Dr. Ashok Kothari’s office as a nurse in his cardiology practice from 1989 until her retirement in 2013.
Mrs. Barry was a lifetime parishioner of St. Mary of the Angels Church.
In her free time, she enjoyed sewing while making many clothes for herself and her family. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting and was an avid reader.
She is survived by her children Steven G. (Shirley) Barry of Ashburn, VA, and Marcia G. (Joe) Wright of Black Creek; 7 grandchildren, Stephanie L. Barry, Sean David Barry, Michelle Suzenne Barry, Lauren S. Barry, R.J. Strickler, Matthew G. F. (Lauren) Strickler, and Krysta L. (Lucas) Brind’Amour; two great-grandchildren, Claire L. Brind’Amour and John David Strickler; her siblings Michael Kramer of Black Creek, and Mary Lou Kramer-Bickner of Loveland, CO and several nieces and nephews. She had many special friends, especially Drs. Ashok and Yogi Kothari.
She was predeceased by her parents; a brother James Kramer and her infant son Patrick Michael Barry.
The Family will receive friends on Friday (August 19, 2022) from 6 -8PM at the Casey Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 West State Rd., Olean. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Saturday (August 20, 2022) at 9:30AM at the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
