Obituary of Joan B. Kohl

Joan B. Kohl Olean, NY Joan B. Kohl, of S 19th St., passed away Saturday (July 9, 2022) at the Bradford Ecumenical Home, Bradford, PA after a short illness. Born December 6, 1928 in Jamestown, she was the daughter of Murl and Elinor Arthurs Bates. On February 14, 1948 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Olean, she married Leonard A. Kohl who predeceased her July 13, 2018. Joan was a dedicated member of Trinity United Methodist Church and taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and helped with the many social aspects of the church, including the dinners. Additionally, she helped others joyfully and was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed being a wife, mother to her 3 daughters, and a cherished grandmother. She leaves behind 3 daughters Pamela (Stanley) Brown of Bradford, PA, Diane Gibbons of Rochester, and Elizabeth (John) Somers of Penn Yan; 9 grandchildren; several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by an infant son Jeffrey Kohl; 2 brothers William Bates and Richard Bates, and a son-in-law Gerald Gibbons. At Joan’s request, there will be no services. Burial will be next to her husband in Allegany Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 131 N. 9th St., Olean, NY 14760, or to the Cattaraugus County SPCA, 2944 Olean Hinsdale Rd., Olean, NY 14760.
