Obituary of Herbert Williams

Herbert Williams Machias, NY Herbert Williams, 91, a 66-year resident of the Cattaraugus County Nursing Home, now The Pines of Machias, passed away Tuesday (May 17, 2022). Born January 6, 1931 in Portville, he was the son of Bert and Beatrice Foote Williams. Herbie, as he was affectionately known by his many caregivers over the years, was very pleasant and loved by all. He first came under the care of supervised living in 1956 at the property known as the Stone House which currently stands adjacent to The Pines. It serves as a museum for the County. A ‘new’ home was built years ago, has since been razed, and he had been in the former and present nursing home facilities for a combined total of 66 years. Herbie loved to feed the fish every morning on his unit. That was his routine, then he would have his fried egg sandwich every morning. He loved to visit with staff on the Unit and down in Administration. He would hand out small Slim Jim's to the staff. Even though he was set in his habits and did not like change, he really enjoyed outings to Walmart and going to the fair to see the animals. His only sister, Rose Williams, resided in the same facility for close to 40 years and she passed away last October 28th. A brother also predeceased him. A private wake and funeral service will be held on Wednesday (May 25, 2022). Burial will be next to his sister Rose at Hinsdale Cemetery in Maplehurst. Arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, Olean.
