Obituary of Edward R. Martin

Edward R. Martin Olean, NY Edward R. Martin, of 3100 Cranberry Rd., formerly of Olean, passed away Wednesday (August 18, 2021) at The Pines Health and Rehabilitation Center in Olean after a recent illness. Born December 12, 1931 in Olean, he was the son of Andrew and Mary Shuback Martin. Mr. Martin was a resident of Olean most of his life and had worked for 35 years for the former Olean Bottling Works, retiring in 1987. He was a former longtime member of St. John’s Church prior to moving to Allegany where he began attending St. Bonaventure Church. He loved music and dancing, especially the polka, and enjoyed attending County and State fairs. He was also an avid St. Bonaventure Bonnies fan. Surviving are many nieces and nephews, including his niece and principal caregiver Elena Batesky of Olean, as well as a caring friend Elaine Dwyer. He was predeceased by 3 brothers Andrew Martin, Jr., George Martin and John Martin; 8 sisters Margaret Dann, Helen Wittenburg, Julia McNeill, Rose Jurenko, Mary Ann Dornberg, Anne Batesky, Elizabeth McGraw and Veronica Laing. Friends will be received on Sunday from 1-4pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd., Olean. Funeral services will be held Monday (August 23, 2021) beginning with a prayer service at 9:30am in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10am in St. Bonaventure Church. Rev. James Vacco, OFM, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to St. Bonaventure Church, 95 E. Main St., Allegany, NY 14706.
