Family and friends are invited to a memorial graveside service for William L. Haas, a former longtime Olean resident, on Saturday (June 19, 2021) at 11:30am in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Sr. Regina Gertrude Aman, OSF, of the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels, will officiate.
The Allegany American Legion Ritual Team will provide military honors at the grave.
WILLIAM L. HAAS
Las Vegas, NV William L. Haas, 89, a longtime Olean resident, passed away Thursday (February 4, 2021) in Las Vegas, where he had been residing since 2014.
Born November 16, 1931 in Olean, he was the son of William F. and Letha M. Stewart Haas, Jr. On July 28, 1956 at St. Mary of the Angels Church in Olean he married Mary M. Baker who predeceased him October 18, 2012.
Bill attended St. Mary of the Angels Parochial School and later graduated from Olean High School. He furthered his education at the former Westbrook Commercial Academy and after his military service, attended St. Bonaventure University.
He was a veteran of the US Air Force, having served from 1951-1955 during the Korean War. He later worked for the City of Olean Water Department for 20 years prior to his retirement in 1994.
He was a member of the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels, was a 3rd degree member of the Olean Knights of Columbus Council 338, and was once active with the former Jaycee's. He enjoyed camping, travel and weekends at the Utah cabin.
Surviving are 5 children Kimberly (Fritz) Simons of Las Vegas NV, William (Kirstin) Haas of Las Vegas, NV, Derek (Peggie) Haas of Clermont, FL, Christopher (Marlene Schillinger) Haas of Bradford PA and Heather (Christopher) Kranock of Olean; fourteen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; 1 brother S. Richard (Elaine) Haas of Tampa, FL and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no scheduled services at this time. A memorial gathering may be planned for a later date and will be announced.
