Obituary of Lois A. Marlett
Lois A. Marlett
Olean, NY Lois A. Marlett passed away Thursday (September 20, 2018) surrounded by family, after a lengthy illness.
Born in Saybrook, OH to Harold and Louise Buck on January 23, 1938, she was the daughter of a strong-willed woman and fire chief. Together, they shaped Lois into a loving, caring and strong woman.
In 1957 she married Frederick Carmen Marlett of Geneva, OH and started a family. A matriarch, her family was always her first priority. While her children were young, she spent her time volunteering as a Sunday School teacher and Cub Scout den mother.
Lois was very proud of her time as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked in mental health and long term care facilities. She loved working with her residents. To her, they were like an expansion of her family. Following an injury, she continued to visit as a volunteer.
Lois could not be deterred by a set back. Her injury took her ability to work as a nurse, but her warm heart and selflessness continued as she went on to spend countless hours, personally crocheting approximately 50 blankets, one for each child of teenage mothers at a local group home.
In the community, her acts of kindness were admired and appreciated by many. She was known as "Gramma Lois" to family, friends, neighbors and even to people she had never personally met. She was a light to many in very dark times and will always be remembered for her kindness, strength and love of a good Bills game.
She is survived by her siblings, Harold (Lou) Buck, Ray (Darlene) Buck and Patricia Buck; her children, Carl Marlett, Tim (Casey) Marlett and Valerie (Ronnie) Turek; her grandchildren, Nikki (Fausto) Munez, Kristina Marlett, Jessica (Paul) Myszka, Emily Bearfield, Korrie Turek, Billie Jean Hilliard, Shamus Hilliard, Teegan Marlett, KiaRayne Turek, Tyler Marlett and Kyler Marlett; great grandchildren, Landin, Ana, Aubrey, Brenden, Ainsley, Aiden, Camden, Madelynn, Ryder and Jaxson; Very special friends who were always family in her heart, Leigh VanDeWalker, Debra Marlett, Eric McCarthy, Erin McCarthy and Tyler Turek.
She is reunited in heaven with her son, Christopher Marlett; her husband, Frederick Marlett, her sister, Shirley (Palmer) Kaise; and her parents, Harold and Louise Buck.
Her family will be holding a private service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
