Kim M. Schmidt Moricca

Allegany, NY     Kim M. Schmidt Moricca of 219 White Oak Dr. passed away peacefully Wednesday (July 18, 2018) at The Pines of Olean, with her loving family at her side.  She had fought a long, heroic battle with kidney cancer.

Born December 30, 1964 in Utica she was the daughter of Edward and Karen Graceffo Schmidt.

Kim was raised in Smithtown, NY and was a 1982 graduate of Smithtown East High School.  She graduated in 1986 from St. Bonaventure University and later received her masters in social work from Stony Brook University.

She had spent her entire career, in various capacities, helping those most in need.  Most recently she was a  social worker for Seneca Intermediate School and was clinical supervisor for all social workers in the District.

She was a member of St. Bonaventure Church, loved the beach and enjoyed reading.

She is survived by her parents of Eastport, NY; 3 children Michael Moricca of Buffalo, Megan Moricca and Liam Moricca, both of Allegany; 1 brother Thomas (Lori) Schmidt of Ridgewood, NJ; 1 sister Kristin (Jay) Flake of Sparta, NJ and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received on Friday from 5-8pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean.  A prayer service will be held Saturday (July 21, 2018) at 10:30am in the funeral home.  A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11am in St. Bonaventure Church.  Rev. James Vacco, OFM, pastor, will be the celebrant.  

A fund  is being established for the benefit of Kim's 3 children.  Those donations may be directed to Kim's parents' address; C/O Edward Schmidt, 74 Encore Blvd, Eastport, NY 11941. Memorials also may be made to St. Bonaventure Church, 95 E. Main St. Allegany, NY 14706.
