Obituary of Mary Metz

COCOA, FLA. - Mary Theresa (Hoffman) Metz, 69, a resident of Olean, NY and Florida most of her life, passed away Monday 01/26/26 at William Childs Hospice House (Palm Bay, FL), after an extended illness. Born December 29, 1956, in Cleveland, OH, she was the daughter of Dr. James Fisher Hoffman and Romaine Ryan Hoffman. Mary attended Olean Senior High School in Olean, NY. She lived the majority of her life in Olean, NY and Florida, and worked as a sales associate at Publix, Winn Dixie, and Walmart. Most important to Mary were her children, grandchildren, and family. She loved her dogs Luna and Leo and she enjoyed quilting, crocheting, movies, and reading. She leaves behind four children; David Metz (Cocoa, FL), Jennifer Metz (CA), James Metz (Seminole, FL), and Jason Metz (Olean, NY); three grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind seven siblings, James Hoffman (Olean, NY), Charles (Sandy) Hoffman (Colorado Springs, CO), John Hoffman (Olean, NY), Paul (Sherry) Hoffman (Ridgway, PA), Pat (David) Merriam (Hornell, NY), and Peter (Angela) Hoffman (Argyle, TX). She was predeceased by her sister, Rose Marie Doty in 2023. The family will hold a private burial at St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Allegany, NY. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
