Helen M. Monroe Allegany, NY Helen M. Monroe, of 4757 S. Nine Mile Rd., passed away Saturday (February 20, 2021) at The Pines of Olean. Born November 12, 1936 in Allegany, she was the daughter of Fred H. and Bertha D. Warrior Lemon. On March 9, 1957 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Allegany, she married Thomas M. Monroe who predeceased her July 28, 2001. Helen was a 1954 graduate of Allegany Central School and began employment at various places including Clark Brothers, the Gift Fountain and Campbell Oil Co. She then worked for the Town of Allegany as Deputy Comptroller for 20 years prior to her retirement in 2015. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Allegany 60 Plus, and was an enrolled member of the Heron Clan of the Seneca Indian Nation. For years she had been an active member of the Allegany American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and also the Ladies Auxiliary of the Allegany Engine Co., Inc. She was also a former social member of the Limestone American Legion Post 1560. She was a Buffalo Bills fan, and loved to play bingo. She leaves behind 2 sons Thomas Monroe of Allegany and Timothy (Theresa) Monroe of Bradford, PA; 7 grandchildren Gosheneh Kennedy, Mariah Monroe, Thomas Monroe, Deanna Monroe, Ashley (Lance) Broadwell, Sarah (Chris) Crawley and Timothy Monroe; 11 great grandchildren; 1 brother Ronald Lemon of Allegany; a brother-in-law Charles (Judy Ebbert) Monroe and a special niece Christina Stier Hackett, along with many other nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Tom, she was predeceased by her siblings Winifred Stier, Calvin Lemon, Lucille Neporadny, Frank Lemon and Robert Lemon. The family will be present to receive friends on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. Funeral services will be held Wednesday (February 24, 2021) at noon in the funeral home. Rev. Derek Cheek, pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Allegany American Legion Post 892, PO Box 233, Allegany, NY 14706 or to the Allegany Engine Co., Inc., 188 W. Main St., Allegany, NY 14706.
