Murry J. Pitre, Jr.
Olean, NY Murry J. Pitre, Jr., of Olean, passed away Thursday (January 28, 2021) at the Cuba Memorial Hospital after a battle with lung cancer.
Born August 5, 1948 in Opelousas, LA, he was the son of LeRoy and Dessie Brasseau Vidrine. He was formerly married to Peggy Fornoff (later Peggy Gaiser) with whom he had 2 children, Ella and Kristie. In 2001 he married Michelle M. Maleski Holmes, who survives.
Murry lived most of his earlier years in Louisiana where he worked as a truck driver, among other jobs. He moved to Kenmore in 1978 and began working for General Motors, later residing in Silver Creek prior to his retirement in 1994. He and his wife Michelle moved to Bay St. Louis, MS where they lived for a number of years until returning to the Buffalo area. They moved to the Olean area in 2007.
He enjoyed fishing, playing pool with his buddy Norm, and was a long-time collector of both wolf and eagle memorabilia. Wherever he lived, he took pride in his yard and property and he received immense enjoyment in maintaining it.
Surviving in addition to his wife Michelle are 3 daughters Ellen (Scott) Dodge of Gulfport, MS, Kristie M. Pitre of Kenmore and Ella M. (Vincent) Torres of Washingtonville; 6 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; 1 stepson Dylan Holmes of Allegany; 1 sister Donna Vidrine of Texas and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother Charlie Vidrine, and his first wife Peggy Fornoff.
The family will be present to receive friends on Wednesday (February 3, 2021) from 6-8pm in the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. A funeral service will begin at 8pm in the funeral home.
