Lewis F. Callahan
Hinsdale, NY Lewis F. Callahan, of the town of Hinsdale, passed away Saturday (December 19, 2020) at home, following a lengthy battle with cancer.
Born June 30, 1942 in Blossburg, PA, he was the son of Lewis and Fannie Hornsby Callahan. On June 24, 1967 in Olean he married Veronica L. Hudson who survives.
Lewis was a 1960 graduate of Oswayo Valley High School. Soon after graduation, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps and served for 4 years, and then for an additional 2 years in the reserves.
He worked a short time for Viko Furniture Co. in Eldred, PA while he was a resident of Shinglehouse, PA. He then worked for 38 years, first for Houghton Laboratories in Olean, and then for Hysol Corp. (later Henkel-Loctite) until his retirement.
He was a past member of the St. Stephen's Club in Olean and was a longtime member of the American Legion. He previously bowled in a league, as well as in a mixed couples league. He was an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills, the Sabres, the NY Yankees and was a Penn State football fan. He enjoyed camping with his family. At home, he loved feeding and watching the backyard birds, and he especially loved the company of his feline friend "Yankee".
He is survived by his wife Veronica; 1 daughter Darla Jean Callahan of Olean; 1 son Wesley (Courtney) Callahan of Allegany; 1 granddaughter Felicia Ann Callahan; 1 sister Marie Simpson of Philadelphia, PA; several nieces and nephews, and his very close friends Carl and Cheryl Parker of Bradford, PA.
He was predeceased by 5 siblings John Wellman, Irene Shelley, Ella Mae Nobles, Elizabeth Williams and Dorothy Clinton.
Friends are invited to join the family for a graveside service to be held Wednesday (December 30, 2020) at 1pm in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Olean.
