Scott Russel Stevenson, Jr.
Limestone, NY Scott Russel Stevenson, Jr., of Limestone, passed away unexpectedly Sunday (December 13, 2020).
Born July 15, 1941 in Chipmonk, he was the son of Scott and Ada Jean Conrad Stevenson, Sr. He grew up in a close family with three siblings and numerous cousins whom he considered siblings.
Scott was a 1958 graduate of Allegany High School and attended college. He married Linda D. Spittler in June 1965. He enlisted in the US Army where he served in Thailand in an Army Engineering Battalion. In November, 1976 he married Patsy P. Junell Mills.
He was a decades-long employee of Agway, Inc./CF Industries. Along with his father he was a partner in Scott R. Stevenson Water Well Drilling, and owned Stevenson Oil, an independent oil production company. In the latter part of his career he worked for a delivery service company, and then ended his career working for the Graham Packaging Co. in Bradford.
Scott was a member of the Independent Oil Producer's Association, the Limestone American Legion, the Limestone Fireman's Club and he was a Free and Accepted Mason of the Henry Renner Lodge in Limestone. In addition, he would proudly proclaim "I am a member of the IOOB Club."
He was first and foremost a most giving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He cherished the time he spent with loved ones, often reminiscing on raising his children or times he helped a friend. He frequently used his impressive skill and knowledge as a handyman for those who needed him. He could fix just about anything, with a trip for parts, a stop for ice cream, a story, and a few choice words.
He was known by many to be a famous storyteller. His legendary stories centered on his life experiences, his family, and his values. Although a hard-working man, he found time for the things he enjoyed such as music, card playing, hunting, attending events for his grandchildren, and especially family parties. He also loved town events, often attending fundraisers and benefits. Weekly card games were something rarely missed. He loved to dance and was a friend to all.
He is survived and will be missed by 3 loving daughters Dawn (Hugh) Maguire of Limestone, Denae Stevenson of New Brockton, AL and Jennifer Stevenson of North Port, FL; 4 step children Sheree (Eugene) Dixon of Limestone, Cary (Darlene) Mills of Limestone, Barry Mills of Batavia and Kim (Doug) Kosinski of Limestone; 15 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife Patsy, he was predeceased by a brother John Stevenson, and 2 sisters Connie Stevenson and Mary Ann Taylor, and a stepson Timothy D. Mills.
The family will be present to receive friends on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd., Olean. Funeral services will be held Friday (December 18, 2020) at 11am in the funeral home. Burial will be in Limestone Cemetery.
