Obituary of Hazen R. Everetts

Hazen R. "Buzz" Everetts Olean, NY Hazen R. "Buzz" Everetts of 1733 Happy Hollow Rd. passed away Saturday (October 31, 2020) at the Olean General Hospital, after a brief illness, without any diagnosis of COVID-19. Born August 6, 1924 in Ischua, he was the son of Otto and Nellie Cole Everetts. On June 28, 1947 in Olean, he married Virginia M. Morgan who predeceased him June 20, 2014. Hazen attended a one-room schoolhouse in Black Creek, later graduating from Cuba High School in 1942 where he enjoyed playing sports, especially football. In 1943 he enlisted in the US Army where he served during WWII with the 3rd Infantry Division, 15th Regiment, and was honorably discharged in 1946. He soon began a life-long career with the Ford Motor Co., first with the former Whitman-Jessen Dealership in Olean, and later for Mastel Ford where he worked in many capacities for over 50 years until his retirement in 1989. Hazen was a longtime member of the Portville Baptist Church and volunteered as a past commander for the VFW Olean Post 1619 and later as a district officer. For years he was a member of the Malta Marcher Drum & Bugle Corp for the VFW. He also was a proud veteran and belonged to the Society of the 3rd Infantry. He is survived by 1 daughter Lorraine "Lori" Everetts of Olean; 2 sons Dwight (Ruth) Everetts and Terry Everetts, both of Olean; 7 grandchildren Cary (John) Bhe, Scott (Kelly) Everetts, Anthony (Audrie) Everetts, Allan (Kristen) Everetts, Staci Everetts, Joseph (Penny) Everetts, Christopher (Kelly) Everetts; 8 great grandchildren Lexi, Shaelin, Andrew, Bradley (Cortney), Emily, Rianna, Ryleigh and Robbie; 1 great-great granddaughter Lennox and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by a son Duane Everetts in 2008; a daughter-in-law Vicki Everetts in 2020; 4 sisters, infant twin sister Hazel Everetts, Dorothy (Alton) Moyer, Frances Greener and Geraldine (Robert) Witter; 1 brother Gerald Everetts and 1 brother-in-law Lester Morgan. Friends will be received on Thursday from 5-8pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. Funeral services will be held Friday (November 6, 2020) at 10am in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Hinsdale Cemetery, Maplehurst, where full military honors will be accorded by the Allegany American Legion Ritual Team.
