I consider it a great privilege to have Uncle Phil Haladay as part of our family. My earliest memories of visiting my grandparents included house on the corner where Uncle Phil, Aunt Janet and their children lived, along with my great-grandfather Adrian Fay resided. Uncle Phil was always working on something. He presented a sort of gruff exterior to match his calloused hands, but we learned that a lot of the gruffness was just good-natured teasing. You always knew where he stood because he was never afraid to tell you his opinion. He was committed to God, his family and his church. I think his most inspiring trait was his love for his wife, which stood the strains and stress of more than 72 years and remained tender to the end.
To my Haladay cousins I want to say that you have lost someone who loved and cared about you. May God consule you with the prospect of being reunited with both of your parents soon.
