Gayle C. Emley                Loving mother, wife and friend

Allegany, NY      Gayle C. Emley, 78, of Allegany, died Saturday, June 29, 2019 after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born Jan. 4, 1941 in Hamburg, NY, the daughter of Harry and Vera Chittick. She graduated from Hamburg schools. She later went on to dental hygiene school in Buffalo, NY.

In 1963, she met Gordon Emley and they married in 1965. They lived in Hamburg until moving to Randolph, NY in 1971.

While in Randolph, during her children’s elementary school years, she was a Girl Scout leader and active in various school activities.

In 1979, the Emley's moved to Olean. Mrs. Emley worked as a dental hygienist until her retirement.

She was also a member of the Christ United Methodist Church and attended adult Bible classes. She and her daughter, Leigh, volunteered with Meals on Wheels.

She and her husband, Gordon, enjoyed several trips in their retirement years, including the Jersey shore and to the South, including several trips to Florida. Mr. Emley died in 2013.

Throughout her illness, Mrs. Emley kept up a positive, cheerful outlook on life. Her cat, Penny, was a constant companion.

She will be greatly missed by friends and family.

She is survived by two daughters, Beth Emley of Rochester, Leigh Cornett and her husband, Scott, of Allegany; a brother-in-law, Jonathan Emley, and his wife, Linda, of Pittsburgh; a sister-in-law, Grace Hutchinson and her husband, Ronald, of Michigan; and cousins, including Cheryl Cecil of Vermont and Hilary Dudderar of Florida.

Friends will be received on Saturday (July 6, 2019) from 11am until noon at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd. Olean.  Services will begin at noon at the funeral home.  Rev. Carrie Wolfe, of the Christ United Methodist Church, will officiate.  Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery.
