Allegany, NY Gerald R. "Jerry" Giardini of the South Nine Mile Rd. passed away Friday (April 14, 2017) at the Olean General Hospital after a brief illness. Born April 23, 1939 in Carrollton he was the son of Gerald and Marion Thomas Giardini. On August 14, 1982 in Chipmonk he married Carolyn J. Panada who survives. Jerry attended the one-room schoolhouse in Chipmonk and later graduated from Allegany High School. He served for four years in the US Army during the pre-Vietnam era. He used to cook at the former Edgewood Restaurant in Allegany and later worked for many years in the maintenance department at St. Bonaventure University, retiring in 2002. He was a member of the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels and the Allegany American Legion and was a former member of the Olean Moose Lodge. His love was in raising all kinds of farm animals and in breeding dogs. He is survived by his loving wife Carolyn; 1 son Jeffrey (Sarah) McCaul and 1 daughter Janet McCaul-Emborsky, both of Salamanca; 7 grandchildren Luke Wenke, Camille Emborsky, Shawn Farr, Maximus McCaul, Samantha McCaul, Oran McCaul and Gibson Town; 3 sisters Marjorie (John) Hirst of Olean, Anita Giardini of Allegany and Sharon (Roger) Vincent of Houston, TX and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 4 brothers Victor Giardini, Thomas Giardini, Ronald Giardini and Michael Giardini and an infant sister Linda Sue Giardini. Friends will be received on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. Funeral services will be held Wednesday (April 19, 2017) beginning with a prayer service at 9:30am in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at the St. Bonaventure University Chapel. Rev. David Tourville, associate pastor of St. Mary of the Angels Church, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery, with full military honors being accorded by the Allegany American Legion Ritual Team. Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, C/O Operation First Response, 20037 Dove Hill Rd., Culpeper, VA 22071, the SPCA, PO Box 375, Olean, NY 14760, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the Allegany American Legion.
