Obituary of Anthony R. Ross

“Loving Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, and Great-Great Grandfather” Olean- Anthony R. Ross, formerly of 4th Street in Olean, and most recently a resident of Eden Heights, passed away Sunday (December 25, 2016) at the Olean General Hospital. Born July, 30 1921 in Olean, he was the son of Guy and Florence Visengard Ross. On May 27, 1948 at St. John's Church in Olean, he married Rita Mae Russell, who predeceased him January 29, 1987. He later married Marilyn F. Teachman, who predeceased him on October 6, 2016. Mr. Ross was a 1940 graduate of Olean High School. While working at Curtis Aircraft in Buffalo, World War II evolved and he enlisted in the Army Air Corp immediately. After becoming a pilot, he served in the Pacific Theater as a B-25 Bomber Pilot. At the end of World War II, he retired as Captain in the United States Air Force. In 1948, he began his employment at Clark Bros, now Dresser Rand in Olean, retiring in 1986. He was a member of St. Mary of the Angels Church, and a 70 year member of the American Legion, V.F.W., and a member of American Society of Mechanic Engineers. He enjoyed radio controlled model airplanes and horse racing. Surviving is a son Gary (Barbara) Ross of Napoli;a daughter Linda M. (William Foster) of Allegany; one brother Richard (Teresa) Ross of Olean; two grandchildren Shawn Siago, Michelle Siago; three great-grandchildren Christopher Borden, Alexis Borden, Courtney Borden; and five great-great grandchildren Landon Miller, Maelee Allhouse, Niomi Chapman, Ryder Chapman, and Hunter Chapman; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his both of his wives, he was predeceased by two brothers Ronald and Francis Ross, and one sister Evelyn Bennett. Funeral services under the direction of the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home, Olean are private. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials if desired may be made to St. Mary of the Angels Church, 202 S. Union Street, Olean, Trinity United Methodist Church, 131 N 9th St, Olean, NY 14760; or to a charity of the donor's choice.
