Pendleton, S.C.- Janet G. Zaproski, a former Allegany resident, passed away Sunday (October 2, 2016) at Hospice of the Upstate in Anderson, S.C., after a lengthy illness. Born March 21, 1939 in Olean, she was the daughter of Henry and Mary Previglian Creco. On January 5, 1963 in St. Mary of the Angels Church, in Olean, she married Paul Zaproski, who survives. Mrs. Zaproski was a graduate of Olean High School and then attended Erie County Technical College. She first worked at the former Hampshire Knitting Mill and then worked for many years for JC Penney. She was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church in Clemson, SC and a former member of St. Bonaventure Church. She was an animal lover and volunteered at various animal shelters. She also enjoyed gardening and volunteering her time at retirement and nursing homes. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons; David (Cheryl) Zaproski of Allegany and Michael Zaproski of Clarksville; one sister Jean Duggan of Olean; one nephew Ted (Kim Clayton) Duggan of Westons Mills; two step-grandchildren Shane and Cory McDivitt; and her best friend Ann Cole of Allegany. She was predeceased by a son Thomas Zaproski in November 1979. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig, and Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Road, Olean on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8pm. Funeral services will be held on Friday (October 7, 2016) beginning with a 9am prayer service at the funeral home, followed by a 9:30am Mass of Christian Burial in St. Bonaventure Church. Rev. James Vacco, OFM, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials if desired may be made to the SPCA in Cattaraugus County, PO Box 375 Olean, NY 14760 or to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
